girl, real women have curves! do NOT be ashamed, and yes, target sizes are way wierd. all these assholes saying "fat people are nasty" and "stop eating" have serious people issues. anyway i'm sure we both agree that girls who are skeletally thin and look coked out are far, far uglier than girls who are a little overweight. and seriously, no girl is ever really satisfied with their body. be proud of who you are :)

OP, don't even worry about it. Who cares if you aren't the model style of beauty? Average American woman is about 5'4 and 144lbs, which according to the BMI index probably falls in the range of overweight or obese (it's a flawed scale though cause it was modified in the 90's just so diet pills could have a better market). Looks are fleeting anyway, so long as you are happy, who cares? I have a bunch of rail thin friends, and you know what they complain about? Having no boobs, or no butt and dramatically sigh over my bust, wishing they could gain some weight to have more of a figure. Most women are unhappy about something about their bodies, and for some reason a lot of women in society would rather bring another girl down to feel better than compliment another.

oh geez, you guys. -_- obviously, seeing as the OP was with her mother shopping, she's likely to be young and still growing. i recently gained 7 pounds, but seeing as i'm only fourteen, it was obvious that i'd gotten taller since was no other change in my appearance. the same thing could've happened to her; when kids grow, they tend to need larger sizes in clothes. herp derp. and even if she was an adult, it all depends on where the weight goes. if she's bigger on bottom, she may need a different size than someone who's bigger on top, etc. or she may have gone through a shift in the distribution of her weight. maybe she had always been even as far as bottom-top ratios go, and then after gaining a bit of weight her bottom overtook the top. but just because she has a bigger butt than boobs doesn't mean she's overweight. it may just be that she now has size differences from top to bottom, and many girls do. i'm built like my mom, so i need larger bottoms than i do tops. i often get medium or large bottoms and small tops; my sister, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. so she buys medium or large tops and smaller bottoms. sometimes we even buy the same swimsuit in two different sizes and just exchange tops and bottoms. plus, target has screwed-up sizes.
