Today, I was at the gym with my friends when they invited me to do a few bench presses. Since I'd never done any before, I decided to start with no weights on the bar and work my way up from there. I wound up pinned beneath the bar, calling for my friend to come free me. FML

you dont deserve that bc it is my assumption that 98% of the population can lift a 45 lb barbell. 7-12 yr olds included. Spotter next time homeboy. Always when trying new exercises and eat that protein mix after workouts. Sounds like you need to gain some weight and muscle

most of you people are idiots and know nothing about lifting. he didnt say he couldnt lift it he couldn't bench it which is a conpletely different thing and requires a strong chest as well as strong arms. If he couldn't physically lift it up there is no way he could get trapped under it.

depends on how old you are. if you're a 6th or 7th grader, that is normal. if you're above that, you need to be screened for muscular dystrophy.

my 11 year old brother who plays videogames all day benched it 15 time just right now.

To all the people saying lifting the bar is easy let's put this shit into perspective. When you lift weight (like a box from the ground) it isn't the same as when you do a bench press. For one you're using different muscles (i.e. your legs) and they can take a hell of a lot more pain and weight than your arms ever could. Legs have to support your whole body weight just to walk anywhere. You're body is automatically conditioned to take more weight from your legs. Your arms however don't do that much work if you don't workout because you're not using your arms to lift (otherwise you'd throw your back out). Plus given that the bar is usually like 6 to 8' long it's a little cumbersome. The OP should probably be able to do it but we don't know if he's 5 years old, a skinny nerd or someone with atrophied muscles. Just glad people can compare apples to oranges and then call the OP a dumbass. Idiots.

Take into consideration of how many reps....what if he did like 60 reps and couldnt lift it again, its happened to me where i did low weight high rep for training and almost got pinned...BUT i had a spotter, so YDI cause of the lack of spotter.....

Good on ya for making the effort! Gotta start somewhere. Embarassing as it may be...

He could have had a horrible grip on it.. It's a lot harder with a very narrow/wide grip.
