Show it anywayThe point here is that the teacher made the students advocate HIS beliefs, not their own. He's not teaching the children to state their own opinions, but to just believe whatever he tells them. OP, you should be proud of your son for standing up for himself!
A lot of teachers give assignments like that - The teacher isn't saying "hey you have to believe this or you fail" they're trying to get the students to see different perspectives and learn critical thinking skills. Her son could have easily 'stood up for his beliefs" without being a vulgar little shit by saying "I do not feel comfortable advocating that position" and walking out of the class . . He would have still been a badass to his friends for walking out of the class and would have likely gotten in less trouble.
You sir shuld go **** yourself. Oh wait you probly already do
"without being a vulgar little shit..." Anyone else notice this little gem of hypocrisy? On another note, who cares if he said it in a vulgar way? He's 17, it doesn't matter at all.
Haha that's really funny!
Good! Don't get on to him! Let it son feel comfortable with a voice, too many people are too afraid to speak or just don't care anymore! If u tell him anything tell him cursing is no substitute for cleverness.
As my French teacher used to say, "Profanity is the crutch of a crippled conversationalist!".
I had a teacher in high school that was about as far right as you could get without falling off the spectrum. Every day she tried to force her beliefs on us, so one day I sparked a bowl in her class. Three week suspension, but I was king of the school after that. OP's son was just campaigning to win the hearts of his peers. I tip my hat to him.
Nah, half a gram of crappy dirt weed in a homemade pipe isn't worth sharing with anybody. Normally, I wouldn't touch that nasty ass cartel weed if my life depended on it, but it made the statement I was hoping to make, and that teacher has since been fired for going on a political rant while being evaluated (it was an English class).
Like I always say, "Profanity is one of the best things in the world when you're mad or sad and if you don't like profanity then you're going to die of stress-related illness."
84, obviously I swear when I'm ******* upset or sad, it was just a clever saying that my goddamn teacher said in some shitty HS...just enjoy the little droplet of knowledge I gave you and go on your way ^__~
There's nothing wrong with asking a student to make a speech, but one on personal political beliefs at 17 seems a bit strange to me. Also, getting suspended seems a bit much. Yes, the kid swore but I've heard teachers swear and kids swore all the time when I was in HS. Granted, it was disrespectful, but detention(s) or something could have handled that.
Was afraid no one would say this. We had to do tons of speeches and presentations on things we didn't believe in, yet we didn't end our speeches swearing. Can't believe that you would defend that behaviour and even call the teacher an idiot.
People at 17 don't have their own political beliefs? Do they not gain these until one day later when they turn 18 and gain the magical ability to vote? Many people I went to school with had strong personal/political views in middle school. I guess our country is really going downhill these days if students in high school can't think for themselves.
Can't and don't are two very different things here. Also, the issue is not that the guy thought for himself, the issue is that he did it idiotically. Though I also applaud him. I'm torn, if he did this to make a point I'd say "well done" if he did this because he's a dipshit then... Well actually that sums it up.
70, I had strong political beliefs at age 17...I just didn't feel the need to share them with everyone else. Just like I didn't feel the need to give everyone a speech about how I was a vegan, or a feminist, or not doing drugs or alcohol at the time. The point being that it's my life. Most people are too goddamn stubborn to listen to anything anyone else has to say regardless so the majority of people trying to impose their own beliefs on others are wasting their breath and just enraging other people.
And seriously, middle school? Stop it.
People mentioned political beliefs in middle school all the time. Only problem was that it was all their parents' beliefs and not their own.
Classic movies! I love the back to the future flicks! :-)
I'm in middle school, I have strong political standpoints, and not all of them are my parent's.
Don't hate the playa, hate the certain aspects in our republic governmental system that makes everyday life for the common man more difficult.
Well, he could have left out the colorful metaphors. Also you should have told the teacher to teach, not Advocate their own political views. Unless, of course it was a political science class. Then the teacher should be open to both sides of the political debate.
For the record, a lot of teachers give assignments that require the student to advocate for an opinion they don't necessarily believe in. It helps students see from perspectives that they wouldn't necessarily have thought of on their own, or recognized otherwise. In other news, if you curse out a teacher, you will get suspended... I feel for you that your son was stupid enough to curse out the teacher, but there really was nothing wrong with the assignment, in my opinion.

Logic fail: 17 year old kid cusses in class=prison for life! Makes sense!
Given that the complaint deals with political beliefs, isn't it pretty standard in debate class / debate club to be assigned the pro or con position on a given issue, and prepare the position regardless of your own beliefs? Was there another child assigned to the opposite position?
Yes, because politics don't decide the fundamentals of your everyday life.
