Today, I was chatting online with a guy I really like, when he used the word "irregardless." I couldn't help but mention how little sense it makes, since it's a combination of two words meaning roughly the same thing. He replied, "lol what? your stupid." Jesus Christ. FML

Some people just don't want to admit they're wrong.

No your not stupid, but calling someone out on the use of a word is petty. Your intelligent? Fine. But no reason to shove it onto someone who isn't quite so. It makes you look like an ass. Ydi.

I think he must have been trying to say irrelevant and tried to switch it to regardless halfway through but despite that he shouldn't have said what he did. Maybe he really is that stupid.

I see a lot of butthurt people in the comments who don't like being corrected. Seriously, if you're wrong, then just suck it up. Honestly, it's better than living in ignorance.

most of us have two maybe three sets of language that we use. the social language set people use is the least likely to conform to a language ruleset and do you know what? it really doesn't matter if you spell something wrong or get your prefixes correct because it is the internet. as long as we switch the proper rules of writing back on for the correct circumstances then we will be fine. people who need to prove they are intelligent all the time really aren't

Y'all needa shut up w/ this grammar crap...If u are too bothered by the word "Irregardless" that you complain about it to the guy you like and that u think it's even remotely close to being worthy enough to put on FML, u needa grow up and get your priorities straight. Jesus Christ...

Regardless of the insult, how was the chat?

There is a difference between creating new words to fill a gap and bastardising current words when we already have a way to say what the new word would mean.

it's "you're" not "your" ...you're in the same boat as him on this one...YDI

nevermind. I completely read the post wrong...yeah...he's just stupid...sorry OP
