Today, I was diagnosed with migraines. Any loud sounds or bright lights make it worse. I'm the drummer for a heavy metal band, so I now have to choose between really bad migraines or a career. FML

You should always out your health before most things! Remember that you only have one body, while you can have multiple careers. Fyl though, and I hope the medications are effective :) I have heard that migraines are horrible to say the last, so good luck in the future, always a lot of options left.

The irony; if you take medication, you can't keep a beat. If you don't, you get sick. It's a lose, lose!

Stick with the music! The sex with groupies and the smorgasbord of drugs is so worth it! Or so Nickelback would have you believe.

Unless you're really famous already, I say quit. You only have so much of a chance to really make it a career, and if it looks grim, keep healthy.

Always FYL for migraines but I have to argue that the migraines may have saved you from wasting your life trying to become a rock star. Maybe now you can do something that might actually get you somewhere?

Well fyl and all, but there's plenty of careers other than being a drummer. There's also a lot of medications to help prevent and ease migraines as well as treatments to stop them. Try seeing a chiropractor for example. I have them, and after a week of seeing my chiro everyday I didn't have one for another month (after I had not gone for about two weeks). Then on Dr. Oz I saw that Botox injections can stop them for up to three months (sometimes longer) and if recommended by your doctor as a treatment, some insurances will cover it.

There are always prescription pain killers. That way, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Quit the band because you'll start to take pills to cure migraines and get addicted and end up like Whitney Houston. Is that too soon?

Contrary to popular belief, you actually can make money in a band without being world famous. You can busk, you can do parties, and then there are countless opportunities to perform in other places that regularly feature live music/entertainment. I hate when people look down on musicians.

Good point, although I suspect few heavy metal bands will be asked to perform at weddings and in piano bars.

My cousin is in a band that's trying to get famous so I know from him: chances are very unlikely it will become anything. They were contacted by a record company and all and are now PAYING to perform for semi decent gigs. Every member of the band has another job. Bar gigs do not pay the bills.
