I think the chassis is the frame bars or like outline of shape the car, not the outer shell you put over the chassis, but I'm not sure.

I would have done the same thing! My car means the world to me! I have a 1967 Mercury Cougar Eliminator that my uncle had before he passed away in his sleep of heart failure. Never, mess with anyone's car. Bottom Line.
