They fired me in a clever way by telling me they didn't have anything for me to teach and that me going on maternity leave was too hard on the students I had so someone else was doing my classes. So I was not officially fired so much as pushed out and replaced

I don't think they can fire you for being pregnant. Go to your union or something like that. They should'nt be allowed to get away with something like that.
Contact your Union leader
That's illegal af
Isn't this illegal? It is in Canada. You might want to look up your worker's rights.
OP is in USA. I don't think they have the same types of benefits for mothers as Canada does. Depending on the job, they may not get a paid maternity leave at all. Whereas in Canada, every new mother gets one year of leave, 65% of their salary, paid by government. My employer actually tops up the benefits from the government for three months as well so we get a full paycheque for a portion of the year. I don't think the USA is quite so generous.
That's seriously all you get? Ouch. Can't imagine going back after three months.
Not necessarily paid, it depends what state you are in and your employer. I'm in Canada and just started mat leave, but most of the pregnancy apps are from the U.S. So a lot of the information about mat leave is based on the states. What I have read is that it is illegal to discriminate against pregnancy in the work place and that they need to give you at minimum 12 weeks unpaid maternity leave. Depending on where you are located and the company you work for there can be a longer leave and pay.
Married or not, you can not be fired for being pregnant. It is discrimination and against the law. No matter the occupation.
Sue them OP. It is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which states they can't fire you if you're pregnant.

HR then court. You can't be fired for being pregnant as a teacher.
That's incredibly stupid. I'm sure you'll find a better job in not time. Good luck with the baby. I'm sure you'll be an amazing mother.
