Today, I was going to take my boyfriend to Napa. It's my birthday and I wanted to do something big since last year my fiancée called off the wedding. My boyfriend just broke up with me because I'm "clearly not over" my ex. This makes two consecutive birthdays alone in romantic hotels I paid for. FML

I think I agree with your boyfriend. Or ex-boyfriend, rather.

What's so romantic about an auto parts store?

YDI for wasting money like that. Especially if he was a dick to begin with. You also deserve it for not getting over your ex. It ***** you every time. now quit whining

YDI for continuing to fantasize about Clay Aiken.

you sound like a selfish person who would talk about how much your fiancé screwed you over til your boyfriend grew sick of it and left your whiny ass

It's not your FML that convinces me, but experience with personal friends that leads me to believe you really weren't over your ex and made it clear you still think about him all the time. It's a major turn off for most people because it makes them wary; not only are you seemingly obsessing over someone you're not with, you're doing it while you should be focusing on someone else (fully, which means not being with someone while someone else occupies your thoughts.) Most of all though it can raise some insecurity in wondering what you'd do if that person tries to reenter your life. Your mistake was getting back into the dating game as a means of getting over your past, because it means you're still dwelling on those memories. Also, don't bring up your ex in conversation ever again unless he raises the subject. Big no-no.

YDI regardless of the fiancé or boyfriend. there aren't many rules to apply to you for dating after being engaged but seriously a year is almost too soon. maybe I'm wrong, but spending time with family or friends would have been more rewarding.
