Today, I was home alone when I heard the carbon-monoxide detector beeping. Panicking, I grabbed my dog, ran out of my house as fast as I could, and waited outside for 3 hours for my mom to get home. Turned out the detector was just out of batteries. FML

For me, I'm the exact opposite. If my detector starts beeping, I'll replace the batteries first before doing anything else. That might be the death of me one day. I also bought detectors that say "Fire" or "carbon monoxide" instead of just beeping, so I actually know when the detector's actually trying to save my life.

Good reaction, but why didn't you call 911 when you left the house?

I agree but in this case it's good he didn't, the cops would be howling after that

Most places have fire trucks with CO testers and the majority of CO alarms are false so...doubt it.

The cops would not laugh at someone for calling in this situation. They would prefer people be safe.

Better to be outside then on the floor sleeping forever. In wondering how you don't what kind of device you have that beeps the same for batteries as it does as an alarm

It's probably never made any noise before then it did and OP assumed that was the alarm.

Consider that a drill, you nailed it!

Why don't you try writing something helpful, or at least meaningful? (ex: not this comment, or your #9 & 18 comment).

even though I've had carbon monoxide poisoning and know that it's not fun you should of called someone before waiting three hours op, that could be just as dangerous even though luckily it was just batteries this time

Like this comment if you prayed for the dog

Well good thing you grabbed the dog to be extra safe.

You did the right thing, but was there no public place you could have gone to wait inside?
