Today, I was invited to a fancy-shmancy charity event, and the host - my friend - told me to wear a long, ballroom, fancy gown. Turns out my friend was just being a dick and it was a pool party. I spent $200 on my hair and makeup alone. FML

Trick your friend back! Nothing is better than revenge.

Think of it this way, you probably looked absolutely stunning and who doesn't have more fun while looking good.

Who spends $200 on hair and makeup? If it was your wedding or something I'd understand but it's just some party.

It was even a charity event. So why didnt she donate that money instead of "wasting" it for just one evening.

You mean to tell me you didn't check the address of the charity event before spending 200$ on make up and hair? Although it was an fml you deserved it a little bit for being self aware.

Well, it was probably being held somewhere like a hotel, a place that could easily have both a pool and a room for fancy events, and OP would have obviously assumed the party would be in the event room, given what she'd been told, only to arrive and find out the party was by the pool instead. The venue wouldn't necessarily give it away, so you can't really say she should have been more self aware until we get more details.

There's no way you don't deserve this for being so vain. $200?! I'm sure you are aware that Quality-Price scales are not linear. Even if it was a ball, why not get 90% the looks for 20% the cost and donate the rest of it? You know, 'cause you're at a charity event? Bitch.

How did she deserve it because she spent that much money on her make up and hair? She obviously expected to be going to a formal, important event where she thought she should look the part.

You don't need to spend big money to look fancy. I didn't even spend that much for my own wedding. I'm sure she already owned makeup and hair products...

Ydi, I didn't even spend $200 on my hair and makeup for my wedding. You can dress us for a fancy event without spending big money.

I really want to say that although I also spent a negligible amount on my wedding hair and makeup I can see the appeal of splashing out for a one-off when you get the opportunity, but $200? Dude.

are you sure he/she is a friend? sounds like a scene from "mean girls" or something..

OP should have asked more attendees what they were wearing.

Just think if you'd put that money toward the charity...
