Today, I was telling my friends a story. I added a few "embellishments" to make it more intense. One my friends piped up with, "I was with you, half of what you just said wasn't true". It's now all over Facebook and I'm known as "The Bullshitter". FML

Today, a coworker told me something I didn't realize was confidential, until later when my boss called me, saying someone may have shared something confidential with me, and me, not thinking so, said I don't think anyone did. We hung up, they called back and elaborated, and it dawned on me now they think I'm a liar. FML

Today, at a party I bumped into a friend of my ex. We caught the same bus home. He started telling me about my ex's "totally insane" ex-girlfriend. He refused to believe me when I told him he was talking about me. I had to sit there for half an hour as my personality was ripped to shreds. FML

For everyone telling OP they deserved it, I once talked to a Standup comic after a show. I asked him how much of his act was actually true and he admitted none of it was. None of it was even based on true stories. The point of his act was to make the audience laugh for a quater of an hour, not engage them in a discussion on the realism of the three-act-structure. Food for thought.

That's great but this isn't even close to the same thing and he DID deserve it. Stand up comedians get paid to bullshit, this guy was just being dishonest to people that probably trust him.

OP's job was not to make his friends laugh. He was not telling a joke, he was telling a story that was not even meant to be funny, just "intense". Nor was he being paid. If comedians went up in front of their family members and told stories that weren't true, they wouldn't get any laughs, just blank stares, because they know that stuff didn't happen. The problem here is that OP got caught in a lie and is now saying "FML", when it is their own fault for telling lies to people who knew the truth.
