Today, I was telling one of my patients I was upset because my sister wants to go to beauty school, and that I don't want her getting a worthless qualification and to aim higher. My patient replied by saying she's a hair dresser. FML

I've been doing hair for 10 years now and make quite a bit more money than most of my friends who have "professional" jobs. Next time you're getting your own hair done why don't you take a moment to ask your stylist about the Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, and Electricity classes he/she had to take before you write it off as a "worthless qualification".

First off, you can make good money in hair. Women are vain, men are vain, and everyone is willing to pay to look good. And before you write it off as worthless, why don't you cut someone's hair, and see how it turns out? While I would never go into hairdressing, I would never deem it worthless... otherwise my hair would look like crap. Second off, you should ALWAYS know what your patients work in before complaining. It avoids insulting them. Third off... your patients are NOT paying you to complain. Do your job, be cheerful, and listen to THEM complain. Fourth off... I hope your hairdresser never hears you think low of him. You may never look acceptable again.

I feel bad for your sister. It must suck having a brother like you :(

You completely deserved this. My sister is a beauty therapist and she loves the work that she does.. she is happier now than she ever was. You shouldn't scoff at someone following their dreams in life, what if your family disapproved of the decisions you took to get where you are today? Just be happy for her and if it all goes wrong then be there for her, with support, not "I told you so"s.

Why are you so worried about what kind of job your sister gets? It sounds to me like she's old enough and free to make her own career decisions, just as you are to make your own.

That's what FML is for, complaining about the daughter who has a better chance of a less stressful and more financially-free life than you do.

the owner of the first salon I worked in made about a quarter of a million dollars a year. not good enough? and what about your sister's happiness? I made honor roll, was capital of the cheerleading team, got 1100 on my SATs, and have my Bachelor's. I'm no idiot. but you sure sound like one!!!!!!! :)P

OHEMGEE PL0X TELL ME UR SECRET!!1! HOW U DO THAT?! U SEEEW KEWL I WONT 2 BE U

I hope you know 1100 is a really low SAT score...

NO LIKE OMG GTFO STFU DONT MAKE FUN OF HER ITS LIKE, LIKE IMPOSSIBLE TO GET 1100 THATS 11 TIMES A 100 OMG

1100 out of 1600 isn't low and wow, like, did I even say like once? I thought being on E made you happy, not cunty.

I really wouldn't consider any score below 1400 good. I retook it after getting a 1410 the first time because I was disappointed in myself.

Canadian here. The hell, all the times I've heard about the SAT the perfect score was like 2400.

That's on the new one. She was talking about the old one (where a perfect score was 1600), so I only gave my score as it would be on the old one. My new score (including writing) is 2240 out of 2400. It changed the year before I took it so anyone who already has a bachelor's degree would have taken the old one.

Some people are better tests tackers and more ambitious than others when it comes to test scores. But all that aside... you were capital of the cheerleading team? Does that mean you were on the top of the pyramid or screamed the first letter when you spelled things?

I hope the stylist gives you a mullet next time you go for a haircut :-)

Worthless huh? I'm a hair dresser and it is a passion that people don't understand and the money is really good. How dare you put down someone else's dream and act like a snob

My best friend is an excellent hairdresser and she makes good money doing it. I surprised that your sister even talks to you with that attitude, OP. My parents gave me the same shitty attitude when I decided to go to culinary school. They wanted me to pursue a career in law or medicine just like them, and would constantly remind me how I 'let them down'. Now I don't even speak to them any more. Don't make the same mistake of looking down on your sister's choice of career.
