Today, I was telling one of my patients I was upset because my sister wants to go to beauty school, and that I don't want her getting a worthless qualification and to aim higher. My patient replied by saying she's a hair dresser. FML

I've been doing hair for 10 years now and make quite a bit more money than most of my friends who have "professional" jobs. Next time you're getting your own hair done why don't you take a moment to ask your stylist about the Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, and Electricity classes he/she had to take before you write it off as a "worthless qualification".

First off, you can make good money in hair. Women are vain, men are vain, and everyone is willing to pay to look good. And before you write it off as worthless, why don't you cut someone's hair, and see how it turns out? While I would never go into hairdressing, I would never deem it worthless... otherwise my hair would look like crap. Second off, you should ALWAYS know what your patients work in before complaining. It avoids insulting them. Third off... your patients are NOT paying you to complain. Do your job, be cheerful, and listen to THEM complain. Fourth off... I hope your hairdresser never hears you think low of him. You may never look acceptable again.

hair dressers make big bucks. so fyl for being stupid enough to think it's worthless.

I would hate to have a sister like the OP. What a nagging, pain in the a**.

Brownies boyfriend was the dentist in the previous FML who didnt know their patient was dead. Yes I just said that lol I made a good joke! Right?....right?

wow you are a jerk! I never comment on these stupid things but seriously i'm offended that u would say something like this. it's not worthless education she could make more money then you can with your fancy degree. I'm studying to be a social worker but I considered becoming a hairdresser. atleast she had the guts to do what she truly wants to do with her life I bet that's more than you can say

Its pretty clear that you didn't know the patient very well, so why in the world would you demean a job, or anything for that matter in front of him/her? YDI. Don't you know everyone gets offended by everything these days anyways..

I HATE when my doctor starts talking about personal problems. I'm there because I have problems; I don't want to hear about your sister's life plans! I HATE people like you! I don't know if you're a doctor or not (sounds like it) but why would you even do this? You don't know what the person that you're doing does for a living. AJRARHHT

You deserved that. Your sister wants to do something she enjoys - you'd rather she "aim higher" for something she doesn't enjoy and get into a job where she's miserable? Not to mention your patient is paying you to fix their problem, not listen to yours. Do your job and stop whinging about your family who aren't living up to your expectations. I hope your sister complains to people about her brother who thinks she's wasting her life just coz she's doing something she enjoys.

Be thankful your sister is willing to go to school and work instead of popping out ten kids and living off welfare.

"Worthless Qualification!!" This post is insulting! It's sad people think this way. I hope your sister will do whatever it is that she loves. I LOVE doing hair and don't feel like I work a day in my life. So often we go for a job that "pays well" regardless if we love doing it. OP there are so very many things I'd like to say....but I'm remembering an old saying "...if you can't say anything nice..." Hopefully you will learn to keep certain things to yourself in the future

Careers are about passion, jobs are based on stability. If your sister or anyone else for that matter loves hair and chooses to make that their career it's not for you to judge...
