Today, I was told by my doctor I should start eating meat again after two years of vegetarianism, in an effort to be healthier. After horrid gas after my first turkey sandwich, I was told that my body no longer has the enzymes to digest meat. My efforts to be healthy crippled my stomach. FML

Talk to said doctor and get enzyme supplements. Orrr create animal shaped vege products and call it a day.

Your body should start producing them again, eventually. Until then, your body will have a beef with you.

same happened to me when I started eating meat after long time... just add more carbs to the meat in the meals and slowly increase the quantity...it works..one step at a time...

After being vegetarian during my time in the womb and for the first few years of my life, then starting again ten years ago, I totally get this. I tried meat again recently and was sick. It wouldn't stay down. My doctor said that I've developed an intolerance to it.

Worst doctor advice, ever. Eating a proper vegetarian or vegan diet is not going to leave you lacking in anything, and will still let you live the way you want to live, and avoid gas. Win/win/win. It just means you have to introduce variety, and acquire a taste for nuts, beans, legumes, and whole grains.

Tht actually not true u dnt have to eat meat to b healthy

Find a better doctor, your current one sucks.

Ahahahah, I'm sorry but this is one funny FML

Your body will start producing those enzymes again after a while. Just take it slowly. But still, you should be able to get all the nutrients you need from a vegetarian diet as well if it's a proper one. So unless you really do want to get back to eating meat I think you should look into ways of making your vegetarian diet better and more versatile.

And this is why I am really never eating meat now. (Not that I ever planned on it, but still.) I've been a vegetarian since conception (my parents both became vegetarians long before my birth, raised me as such, and now that I'm an adult I see no reason to change), so I probably never had the enzymes to digest meat, or they died off very quickly. I'll probably die or something.

I know plenty of vegans and vegetarians that are much healthier then most people I know. Humans where never meant to eat meat in large quantities anyway, there are plants that can give you your needs as protein and such, only one vitamin is found solely in meat. You should be fine if you still drink milk and eat eggs as well though I know plenty of healthy vegans who work hard at giving there bodies what they need. Sometimes the doctor isn't always right, you shouldn't change your diet just improve it and eat smarter :) good luck OP feel better!

Unlike OP's doctor, you do NOT know anything about their medical history, nutritional deficiencies or food allergies that might very well make a healthy vegetarian lifestyle impossible for them. OP should definitely trust their doctor's orders over the advice of some stranger on the internet who most likely has no medical experience at all.

#60: I think OP's doctor knows more about her than you do. Your friends experience has nothing to do with the OP. Everyone is different.
