Since your brother was a minor, it is literally your parents legal obligation to cover your medical expenses even if you are an adult. They are trying to recoup that cost from YOU? If you are a minor, tell every adult in your life that you're being punished for your brother assaulting you. If you're an adult, avoid the toxic mofos
I really hope it’s also because your parents have to pay for anger management therapy for your brother. If gifts are still in the budget and your parents give your brother actual gifts this year that aren’t books on anger management (then again, why wait until Christmas to give him those?), they need a serious reality check. If he’s willing to harm a family member during a fit of rage, who knows what he’ll do to someone outside of the family.
I tell you what he should have ducked
Time to smash every gift he gets for the next 3 years with a hammer.
Ummm, aren't the parents legally obligated to pay for that (being that it is medically necessary). Also, isn't there some sort of law requiring them to have the 12 year old arrested for attempted murder with a deadly weapon? Wow, it's obvious who the favorite is in this house.
Is it because they cannot afford it, after such a large expense, and it is not directed at you? Or are they actually being horrid about it?
You should smash all his gifts for the next 3 years with the same hammer and right before you do it say "remember this hammer?"
Your parents suck. Your younger brother sucks. In fact, he should have been charged with criminal assault, child or no. And given that the surgery was necessary because you had a severe injury, shouldn't insurance have paid for it?

They should also be paying for his anger management therapy. God nose he needs it.
Perhaps your brother should be the one going without presents...until he's 18 and out of the house. Or your parents could invest in your brother's therapy because doing that kind of thing at 12 is a gateway to far more abusive behaviors. If he did that to any kid not in his family he would be in jail.
