Today, I was waitering at the restaurant that I work at when I collected a credit card bill that was worth $120 and a big zero on the tip line. Angered, I turned to a co-worker and said "I knew this asshole wasn't going to tip me." The guy was standing right behind me with $30 in his hand. FML

That was stupid. Plenty of people pay tips with cash instead, myself included.

I hope he threw the money in your face. Ha, no I don't. I hope he gave the money to your co-worker.

Hooray for Australia. We don't tip as a general thing - only if the service is particularly good.

Next time, HE HAD BETTER WRITE "CASH" ON THE TIP LINE!

okay, seriously guys...... servers make $2.50 an hour, we get $0 paychecks, as our hourly wage only covers taxes. look it up, people. tipping isnt "a nice thing to do" it is our only pay. it is irresponsible to complain about customers on the floor, duh, but i still dont understand all these people saying that tipping is optional. i am always respectful of my customers and generally walk with 15-20 percent of my sales in tips. however, ive been stiffed too over the years and it is seriously frustrating after doing my best to take care of people.

I prefer tipping in cash, even when paying by credit card...you are not having to report it then.

I'd be more patient next time. You don't know someones intent until they've left.

$30 is an awesome tip too! but you don't deserve it =/

stupid. never talk about customers until AFTER they've left.

It seems to me that he was considering paying you zero, but had a change of heart after he wrote "zero" on the check. I hope you were able to explain.
