Today, I was waitressing for a huge family. Their bill was $750. Excited about the tip, I was shocked to see only $0.50. As they were leaving, I threw the two whole quarters at their heads. Guess who also got fired today. FML

they probably should've left a better tip, but at the same time you can't throw quarters at a customers head and not expect to be fired.

For them to leave only 50 cents it was clearly as an insult to the waitress imo.

Dude. You at least had a $.50 tip. Now you have nada. Smooth.

you need some serious anger management...

I'm very sorry that you had to wait on Rachel Ray and her entire family. I cannot stand that woman and her cheapness, having herself worked in the tip industry. Next time punch them all in the face!

YDI. No matter what, you mustn't assault customers! Judging from your move and how you seem to think it was okay, maybe it was not so great service from your part... And most likely, they thought your tip was added to the bill, it is quite common...

When the groups are huge, gratuity is usually factored into the bill and if it wasn't, your customer service was probably shitty. If you think it's okay to throw change at them, you probably think it's okay to have shitty customer service. How hard is it to be polite? You're not entitled to tips, you earn them. YDI.

Obviously YDI. Even if the family were well aware of tips and were just trying to piss you off, how is throwing quarters at them remotely okay? Two wrongs don't make a right, not to mention it's dangerous and I assume completely against whatever rules you follow at your restaurant.

Not to mention the fact that those customers won't come back now. Given how much they spent, you just cost your company a LOT of money.

Extreme cheapskates ... They live !! Good for you!!

Extreme cheapskates wouldn't ring up a $750 bill.

The one who was told to leave the tip was

As a former waitress, it really ticks me off when I see people complaining about tips. Yes, it is a large part of a server's income but its called gratuity for a reason; its a thank you. Tips should not be expected. Maybe you didn't deserve it. Certainly seems the case, given your reaction. Also, gratuity and service charges are handled differently everywhere. Maybe they're from a place that doesn't customarily tip, or includes it in the bill.
