Today, I was waitressing for a huge family. Their bill was $750. Excited about the tip, I was shocked to see only $0.50. As they were leaving, I threw the two whole quarters at their heads. Guess who also got fired today. FML

they probably should've left a better tip, but at the same time you can't throw quarters at a customers head and not expect to be fired.

For them to leave only 50 cents it was clearly as an insult to the waitress imo.

1.) I missed the day they made gratuity mandatory. 2.) If it was a tab of $750 then chances are someone used a credit card and probably left a tip via plastic.

Did you expect them to have enough money to tip you after that huge bill? Don't take it for granted, OP.

Okay so if the system were changed so that waiters and waitresses actually got paid their states minimum wage, can you imagine what that would do to the cost of the food? If all the cost of food covers is the ingredients, cook and manager wages, and building usage (utilities and whatnot) imagine what it'll be if you make it cover the cost of paying all the servers wages... Gotta say, I think it'll be a hell of a lot more than just 15% of what you pay with the tipping system. Either way you'll still be paying a lot. If you're able and willing to drop $750 on dining out, then what's another $100? Or at least $50 or $20. Something more than 50 cents. I mean really! That's just cheap. If you're not willing to tip properly, don't go out to eat at a restaurant. Just cook for yourself at home or eat fast food. And OP those customers deserved it for being such cheapskates and assholes....but maybe next time you should probably just make a rude gesture in their general direction after they leave. Maybe reported it to your boss so they know to add the tip on automatically if that family comes in again so that their servers don't get cheated out of their hard earned money.

Did it occur that maybe you didn't waiter their table up to standards ?

You must have done a superly shit job. If your attitude matched your waitressing I wouldn't have tipped you at all!

I might have done the same...I'm not really good with people

Your boss should have made you employee of the year!!

a 50 cent tip on a 750 dollar bill isn't just an insult, it's a punishment, because in some states, regardless of the tip you receive, you get taxed on the expected tip. so OP paid to serve these "costumers"
