Today, I was waitressing for a huge family. Their bill was $750. Excited about the tip, I was shocked to see only $0.50. As they were leaving, I threw the two whole quarters at their heads. Guess who also got fired today. FML

they probably should've left a better tip, but at the same time you can't throw quarters at a customers head and not expect to be fired.

For them to leave only 50 cents it was clearly as an insult to the waitress imo.

As much as I feel bad for you about the fact that you got fired, but that pitiful feeling is far past being canceled out by how you treated the customers of your table. The customers don't necessarily have to leave tip, so at the very least 50 cents is better than them having left you nothing at all.

Doesn't matter if they come back or not, after that. No waiter at the restaurant will wait their table, unless management forces them. And then it will be the service you paid for last time.

Dude, you cannot for any reason throw things at people (especially customers, who are the reason you used to have a job). I don't care what the situation is. You can't do that. I would have fired your ass on the spot, thrown you out the door, and give the family a dessert to go. Any witnesses to that may not come back. That family may not come back. Yes, they should have tipped more. But some people don't know tips are based on percentages of the total, not just leaving the same amount of a tip each time (I rarely leave the full 15%). In a lot of countries, tips aren't given at all. In Japan for example, it's an insult to leave a tip. In some places in the US, a gratuity is included in the bill (especially for large groups and bills that large) so maybe they thought they didn't need to leave a tip or you didn't realize you still got a tip. Or maybe you were just a bad waitress. Or maybe after spending 750 dollars, they couldn't afford to leave 75 or 100 dollar tip. You should have been happy you and your coworkers got through that huge group and your business got that much money. Good luck finding a job now with that on your back.

I would have done the same thing. That is ridiculous, I probably would have cussed them out too though. That isn't okay in any way shape or form

If you had assaulted me like that I would've made you my bitch

And you didn't use gratuity, why?

Were they Mexicans? After working in a restaurant for 3 years I learned that they always do that. One time I had a $80 ticket and they gave me a penny.

You really need to learn how to control yourself. Of course we don't know this, but maybe you didn't necessarily do the best job at waiting their table. You can't just expect people to drop a huge tip at you simply because you know they could afford to. If in their eyes, you did your job poorly, then a 50 cent tip would be their way of letting you know. Or maybe you did a fantastic job and they were just assholes. Either way, it's your fault you were fired.

Most restaurants have a 15% gratuity for groups of 8 or more, does your work not do that?

In case anyone is worried about getting change thrown at your heads when you get bad service.... the proper way to tell a server that they were shitty servers is to leave one penny face down. Then you're making a statement, that no, I'm not being cheap, you were just the worst server ever. And for every waitstaff on here crying about how you need tips to make a living: that's why you need to treat people well. Because you NEED the tips. When I get good service, I tip up to 35%. When you treat me like I'm an extra tip, or like an inconvenience, I don't give a damn about what you need. If I want an unpleasant experience, I'll stay home with some microwavable meals. And yes, I have worked in the restaurant industry, so yes, I understand how hard it is.
