I hope you mean "my ex-boyfriend".
Agree with 8. This is usually the case at the start of a relationship (esp when you're younger), give it a month and if he still doesn't want it to become public, then you might want to do some investigating.
next time he is with his friends go up to him and say : my mom would like to know what you would like for supper tonight.
It's possible that his parents forbid him from having a girlfriend or something. Especially if he's Muslim or Hindu. I've had quite a few friends need to hide their relationships for that reason. Apparently their parents practically disown them if they found out, so it seems natural to hide it.
dump him, dump him, DUMP HIM! what kind of ******* idiot does that!?

Sounds like something off a nickelodeon/Disney T.V. Show. And if its true, I've always wondered how guys ask out a girl they supposedly like and are embarrassed to be seen with them in public.
He's probably just shy and doesn't want everyone to know just yet. I mean, he was walking down the hall with you, so it's not like he's uncomfortable with being around you in public.
