#1- 5 dollars is 10 percent of the bill which = sucky when customers are that big of a hassle. It sucks so much when customers run you around, complain about EVERYTHING and then leave a shitty tip like that. #2- People who are not servers do not understand, therefore need to stfu. :) #3- I don't care if it's a recession. If you can't afford to tip decently, you shouldn't be out eating, especially when it's 50 bucks for a meal for two. People look douchey when they claim that the recession is why they can't tip well, after spending a ridiculous amount on their meal. #4- Starbucks gift card = uber cheap because it sounds like they just randomly grabbed something out of their wallet. However, they do have some other options if you aren't a coffee drinker, but I feel you. I was given one of those for christmas and it took me like 2 years to use it. Desserts and hot choclate ftw!
thats not a **** my life at all... im a waitress and i deal with way worse than that... most people do NOT tip 15%, 5 bucks to starbucks really isnt that bad
and 81, shut up. waitresses DONT make even minimum wage, we make SERVING WAGE, therefore, tipping is part of our salary... and im not saying this doesnt suck, it just shouldnt have made it as an fml, i have to deal with people like that every single day.
I work as a server and we do live off of our tips. I had a six top order full racks of ribs and a ton of bar drinks and couldn't afford to pay for all of it let alone leave me a tip. We work our asses off for people we don't even know and barely make anything out of it. Number 102: You're an idiot, don't do that again.
"All these people talking about being grateful have obviously never been a waitress. It's hard work and their income has a lot to do with tips (their salaries are usually minimum wage; sometimes less). A $5 giftcard for a $50 meal is a shitty tip." I've had 7, maybe 8, waitressing jobs. Be thankful you Americans have a tipping culture at all. Here in the UK the standard tip is 10% but it's not at all expected and in most places, the tip either goes to management, goes to charity, or goes in a big pot to be divided at the end of the year as a 'little bonus'. And no, we don't get paid heaps either. I once had a job working 10 hours a day, 7 days a week earning £3 an hour and the few tips we ever got, we weren't allowed to keep. Even now, I'm a barmaid, and any tips we get have to be put in the charity jar (which I prefer than having to put them in the bosses back pocket). Maybe it's a British thing but personally, I'm extremely gracious of ANYTHING extra a customer leaves. Not everybody is rolling in money and for someone to show even a gesture makes me very grateful. I'd be happy with the compliments alone - you're complaining that they complimented you AND gave you a small tip? Wow.
It could be worse they could have given to a card with NO money on it or worse like, 30 cents. so theres money on it, but you can't get anything. AT ALL.
.. I agree with everyone who said it could be worse.. maybe they thought you like coffee? its the thought the counts.. I used to be a server and I never got tips .. so be happy with what you get.
Quit being so ungrateful and be happy you got something.
83 thank you for fighting that side of the argument well, i completely agree. working 3 years in a restaurant making food, working the register, cleaning the dishes, and opening the store- all not tippable and in general much MUCH harder than carrying a plate of food and adding it up. not one time, has a server walked out with less money than me, even though the serving wage is half of minimum. they do, however, bitch constantly about it as if they did something challenging that was actually worth what they get paid in tips. when a girl walks out of my restaurant with 100 dollars, in cash, for working half the time i did, doing a job 3 times easier than i did, and with much less responsibility than i have, and i leave with the promise of 35 dollars, 2 weeks from then, after taxes, it pisses me the **** off. SO ONE TABLE DIDN'T LEAVE YOU MUCH. CRY ABOUT IT. pick up another ******* shift during a time of the day when people eat most frequently, put on your best little smile, and put the dressing on the side and you will compensate for someone screwing you out of 2 dollars and 50 motherfucking cents. you realize that 5/50 is 10 percent right? if "15 is the minimum tip" than you are whining about literally two dollars and fifty cents. i didn't know 2.50 was an fml.
number 113, you are my hero..

Well, there's tea and pastries there, too, yanno. I always get a Chai when I go there. No reason to be completely thankless.
Ooh, burn! I was tipped with toothbrushes once. Hey cool, number 1 =D
