Wow you dumb ****. At least they complimented. It's not the customer's job to ******* pay your bills. Demand a ******* raise.
You sound really spoiled. Be glad that you even got anything. If you are the type of person to complain about not getting good enough gifts, perhaps you aren't exactly the most pleasant person to be around, and that's why people don't tip you well. Seriously, stop being such a spoiled bitch and start being thankful that people even give you anything at all. I can't believe that this ACTUALLY got on an FML. Bitching and moaning won't get you anywhere in life.
Usually, the people who are full of compliments are the ones who always leave shitty tips. Or the people who run to death and then say "Don't worry, we'll take care of you". That line is bullshit and usually means you'll get less than 15%. When people start doing that to me, I usually just give them shitty service because I know it doesn't matter what I do for those assholes. FYL, because you had to work 4+ hours and only make ten bucks (5 of which you won't even use). That's 5 bucks you could put towards bills or groceries instead of so-so coffee.
I get Tea from Starbucks, it's pretty good.
Firepixie17- If that's your attitude, then that's probably the reason why you get less than 15%. I personally would leave you nothing at all. :D It's not the customers job to pay your rent. They're already paying inflated prices just to eat in a different atmosphere. So what if the meal is 50 bucks? That doesn't mean you worked harder and deserved a bigger tip. They did their part by paying for the food, that's all they're required to to. By the way, waitresses and waiters, YOU CHOSE THE JOB. You chose to rely on tips. You could easily get a job at Mcdonalds- less glamourous, perhaps, but more money and same skill level. Woo!
then get a muffin? christ not the worst thing that could happen
tipping IS optional. Come and work in the UK and you will get jack shit in tips. I worked as a waitress for over a year and you just don't expect to get tips!! HOW THE **** IS WAITRESSING HARD! I'm sorry, you take orders. You occasionally cook food. Your bring the orders to the table. You deal with bad customers occasionally but get over it, we all get bad customers. Why should I tip you for doing your job exactly? Is it stressful? no. Is it anything spectacular? no. Sometimes you work long shifts? get over it, most people do. I work in an emergency department at the hospital. I work 12 hour shifts, sometimes night shifts, you get some of the rudest people you could imagine, constantly concentrating because someone life depends on it. Do I expect a tip at the end of the day? NO - I have been doing my job. The job that I am paid to do. You are paid to be a waitress? Then it is your job to be a waitress and not my job to congratulate you with money for doing it. Aside from that, $5 is 10%. Get over it. Seriously.

Well, there's tea and pastries there, too, yanno. I always get a Chai when I go there. No reason to be completely thankless.
Ooh, burn! I was tipped with toothbrushes once. Hey cool, number 1 =D
