HOW THE HELL WERE THEY SUPPOSED TO KNOW YOU DIDN'T LIKE COFFEE ?! ingrateful people like you make me angry.
Stop being ungrateful. At least you got something. There are plenty of non-coffee items at Starbucks.
Buy yourself a nice scone.
They have a lot of non-coffee stuff....
People absolutely suck. I always at least tip a server enough to get him/her UP to minimum wage b/c I know they don't make that much money. $223 - Servers don't even get minimum wage. After taxes, their checks can literally be $0. This means that it cost OP more money to get to work today (esp if he/she had to pay a sitter) than it would have ahd he/she stayed home. People who don't tip are disgusting. My opinion: if a restaurant is very slow and the server isn't earning enough to get minimum wage (including tips), then I think the restaurant owes them the money in their check to get UP to that amount.
I have worked in the restaurant business before. TIPS are completely optional. It literally stands for "To Insure Prompt Service". Others said previously, "in America TIPS are not optional because it is how waiters and waitresses make their living." There is also minimum wage in America. This minimum wage is based off of your states living costs and averaged to an acceptable minimum wage that people can survive on. The other Waiters and Waitresses at my old job constantly bitched about small tips. Often they would say I served them their food and filled their drinks and treated them with my best service. That is their job. You don't tip the cashiers at Carl's Junior when they bring your food. Tips are supposed to be a reward for outstanding service, not a requirement. Be grateful they gave you anything especially since the friendly couple was probably an easy table.
These dicks saying "be grateful" can suck it. I hate Starbucks. I'd be pissed too. I once thought I got a $5 tip, but it turned out to be one of those Christian tracts in disguise. Tips are pretty much our only income. How about some of you people take an unexpected 50% paycut and then "be grateful you got anything at all."
That sucks

Well, there's tea and pastries there, too, yanno. I always get a Chai when I go there. No reason to be completely thankless.
Ooh, burn! I was tipped with toothbrushes once. Hey cool, number 1 =D
