In England we don't get tipped at all for working in pubs. I waitress at a cafe and never get tipped at all, because it's pay at the till. I have to say you do sound a little ungrateful - you had one bad day of tipping. Big deal.
244: In England, you probably also get paid more from the restaurant for your work. Waitresses here can be paid a lot less than most other workers because it's expected that tips will make up for it. A standard tip is 15%, to 20% if they think you've done a good job or want to particularly thank you. 10% is practically an insult, and that's even if it were cash.
#246: that's certainly true, I didn't consider that! I wonder if the waitresses get to keep their own tips or have to share them...? Regardless, I don't think its an FML because she just had one bad day of tipping. In my job, because its a cafe at a park, if it rains I get called up and told not to come in so I lose out on a days pay. It's just tough.
Yeh well ive worked in bars for 2 years and before that i was a waiter/dishwasher... in Australa mind you but. Try being a guy and having a customer you slave for all night give a chickstanding next to you $200 for doing nothing. The standard here is to throw in your left over change and then sharing it with 4 other staff... so like getting 5c tips from customers. Rarely ever had tips, working very very hard and long hours and then only to get fired for not working hard enough, according to the boss.
For those people telling her to "be grateful"... do you know how it is? Dude, when you tip, you give them MONEY. Seriously. Like someone else said, if you can't afford to tip, don't eat out. These young people don't bargain their lives away for a coffee card...
Ah well, time to start drinking coffee then ay?

Well, there's tea and pastries there, too, yanno. I always get a Chai when I go there. No reason to be completely thankless.
Ooh, burn! I was tipped with toothbrushes once. Hey cool, number 1 =D
