Today, I went downtown with my friends. A group of guys came up to us and started hitting on everyone except me. Then one of them said, "Do you girls hang out with her to make yourselves look better?" FML

Maybe they were trying the insult approach where they insult one girl to bring her down enough so she is easy. Unfortunately I've seen it work on girls, that after they are insulted they feel the need to win the guys approval. So maybe you were out of their league and they knew it so they insulted you.

That technique doesn't work on girls that are out of your league. It's for girls with thirty extra pounds on them that you're trying to get away from a bunch of stuck up friends.

I wouldn't worry, the fact he said that proves he's a prick who you don't want flirting with you anyway. Myself and my friends had a similar situation once actually. We were chatting to a group of guys, then one of them turns to my friend(who happens to be overweight) and delivers the "ugly one of the group" bombshell. Needless to say, all of our legs were firmly closed to him after that! :P No self-respecting woman would date that kind of a jackass. It's one thing for a guy to think it, but it turns into a completely different situation if he doesn't have enough respect for your friends feelings to keep it to himself. Frankly OP, I'd say you definately dodged a bullet there!
