Today, I went on a fabulous date with a really cute, smart, funny guy. He only mentioned his dad, so when I asked about his mom, I asked if they were divorced. She'd died of breast cancer so I felt awful. Then I asked if his dad had ever remarried. His stepmom had died of cancer too. FML

That's just bad luck. I'm sure he understands--it's not like you could have known!

Aww I feel bad for the guy and you. Must've been awkward

There is absolutely no way you could've known. Just say, "Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear that." and move on to the next subject.

You so, completely deserve that.

To say she deserved that means her date deserved to lose his mother and stepmother which he didn't. She phrased something wrong. It happens. She has learned her lesson on how to word things, point made. But for you to say that, you don't realize the extent of what you're saying. He didn't deserve to lose both mothers in his life just like there's no deserving to find out awful information like that. It's heartbreaking. If anything we should hope their date ended on a good note.

I take it that wasn't the breast date you've ever had.

You shouldn't comment if you can't be respectful. Cancer isn't a joke and you saying something like that is pure rude. Keep it to yourself if you aren't going to be supportive.

More like FHL. Instead of posting this on here, you should have been making him feel better.

Feel what? She didn't do anything wrong. Maybe what was said could have been phrased better but she has a right to post what she wants. That's an awful situation to be placed in on both sides. And I truly hope it all turned out for the best.

That's really sucks, but I highly your asking will reflect badly on you.

Nothing for you to feel bad about. It's all a part of getting to know someone.

My cousin is going through that situation, her 1st husband passed away of cancer several years ago and now her current husband is in stage 4 of skin cancer. Terrible situation. I highly doubt your date blames you for asking, anyone would. You did nothing wrong, just poor luck. You said it was a great evening though, soooo hopefully a second date?? Good luck hun.

Stay away from him or else you'll probably get cancer too!

Dude. Keep it to yourself if you aren't going to be supportive. Cancer is hard enough without the jokes and comments like this. It's just wrong.
