Today, I went to a blood drive. The nurse taking my blood mentioned that she'd been called in on her day off, and she swore she wasn't drunk. I didn't know what to do, so I just smiled and blinked back tears as she savaged the vein in my arm. FML

Step 1. Take syringe out of her hand. Step 2. Ask if she'd like to donate blood. Step 3. Regardless of what her answer is, go looking for HER vein. Have fun! And don't blame me for any consequences of your actions!

Wow. She could have not come in! Is she wearing gloves at least? Who knows what other mistakes she's making! RUN for your life!!!

I've got two words for you buddy: WALK AWAY! Seriously, I wouldn't let anyone who even smells like alcohol near my body/veins :l

If the needle wasn't in yet you could have avoided the grievous bodily harm!! Why suffer for someone who clearly doesn't take others into consideration? At a blood drive it can't have been hard to get someone's attention. Save yourself some unattractive bruising and a week of long sleeves and throw the drunk bitch under the bus.

@12: Do you have any idea how dangerous your idea is? If he did that, he could cause infection or hit a nerve or artery. I swear, some of the shit people say, is just plain stupidity. Go take a phelebotomy.course. As for you OP, you should have said something to her. I hope you told her supervisor. FYL.

It must be terrible not having a sense of humor. Are you new to the internet? Fyl, OP. I want to give blood, but this gives me a case of the chills.

It doesn't matter. People are always saying crap like that and I'm tired of hearing stupid ones from people who can't be funny. The nurse has problems but OP doesn't have to be an idiot in return. 39-thumbs up.

Unless you're required to do it by law, next time just get up and leave. If they miss on the first try I leave or ask for a new nurse. I'm not a pin cushion.

I am certified to give an I.V. And I can tell you that even I (not afraid of needles) would not let someone acting like that anywhere near my veins!!!

YDI for not reporting her to her superior. That's extremely dangerous, at a blood drive especially! Maybe next time, OP, you will not be such a pushover and keep your mouth shut as you did. I don't care if it's the pope, the president, or my childhood physician- if you are under an influence, you're just not going to be sticking sharps in me.

If she has to swear she wasn't drunk without u asking...that alone would raise a red flag...in my opinion anyway

OP! Really? Speak up! She could have like busted some thing important and killed you! Although I did imagine you in the 'like a boss' pose with tears in your eyes and a needle shoved through your arm and sticking out the other side.
