Today, I went to dinner with friends for my birthday. During the whole thing they insisted that we get whatever we wanted and celebrate, but when the check came, they all looked at me expectantly. I just bought my friends $150 of food for my birthday present. FML

I woulda got up and left them there with the check. That's so rude. Get some new friends and don't be such a pushover.

people treat you like you allow them to.

They expected you to pay for all of them?? After they were the ones saying "Order whatever you want; this is a celebration!?" Your friends suck. Get new ones.

I don't understand why you paid for it in the first place. Now I have several friends who's parents give them money specifically for everyone to go out to a birthday dinner, but we always ask before we even get to the restaurant if they want to use the money for the dinner or keep it to buy themselves a gift. This was obviously not the case here. You really should have made sure they were buying you dinner before everyone ordered, but you absolutely should not have payed for everyone.

Um it was only 150 for you and all your friends... Where did you go mcdonalds? Or do you only have one friend.

She said "with friends", not "with all my friends" or "everyone I've ever said hi to". I know a few awesome places to have dinner where $150 would get about five people nice dinners and a drink or two.

coward.. I woulda payed for my meal flipped my "friends" the bird and walked outta there.

I would have excused myself to the bathroom...and never go back to the table....

Ok I created account here just so I can comment on this topic. You americans are one cheap ass ******* nation! It's your ******* birthday! Where I come from (Croatia btw, we have lower income than you) we treat our friends for our birthday. I have never spent under 100$ for my birthday on paying drinks and food for my friends, and that is a custom for us. Sucks to be an american I guess. And for all the other comments, you are all a bunch of cheap *******, I wouldn't be your friend if you payed me.

well sorry for being from a different country then you. why would we care how you do it in yours? in our country we are honored on our days of birth with gifts and what not which we do back to others on their birthday.

Customs are different in different places - no need to rant.

jeewiz no need to rant buddy. and I know from personal experience: Croatia ain't much diff to America or aus customs. duh. that's why this is a fml

#71 Thank God, because we rather wouldn't be friends with you either. I wouldn't want friends who expect me to spend over €100 (that's right, European as well) on their food, just because it's my birthday. Nothing cheap about that, it's just common sense, why spend that much on food or whatever, if you can all chip in and have the same meal, without one person having to take a huge amount of money they could've used for the rest of the month.

You deserved it for actually paying for that. You should have just paid for your part. You CAN say no.

what bad friends you have ! now that you paid it they will do it all the times now
