Today, I went to go get my driver's license, only to be told that I need a copy of my birth certificate. In order to get the copy of my birth certificate, I need a driver's license or my passport. In order to get a passport, I need a copy of my birth certificate or a drivers license. I have none. FML

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't a drivers license and a regular id considered to be a state license? To obtain either you'll still need the same info. Atleast in my state it's so.

If you were an illegal immigrant in where I live (Chicago) you'd get a birth cert, DL, passport, food stamps, free health care and free community college.

It's actually a simple process, you just need to contact the state or hospital you were born in and your parents can request a copy of your birth certificate.

Unfortunately OP, the government sucks. It's the same in Australia. Basically everything has to be completed by the book and the minute something seems different to the book, nothing can be done. This is why I am proud to come from a family who the majority are self employed.
