Today, I went to my fiancé's house to have dinner with his family for the first time. Trying to be polite at the end of the meal I went to take the plates in to the kitchen. I overestimated how heavy the half-finished soup pot was, and threw soup all over myself and future mother-in-law. FML

The thought that counts? Hopefully she had a sense of humor. 

Not an FML. Just an embarrassing accident. I doubt she'll hate you because of it.

Wow that just had to happen and it just had to be soup. Congradulation, your life is ******.

In the future you'll be laughing about this. Sorta. Well ... 

my bf logged into yahoo IM and I clicked on his name you know and said "Hey baby" and it was his mom who logged on to his account....

So? It's not like you said anything sexual, thinking it was him.

Psh. It's not like you insulted her profession or religious belief or something. You just spilled soup on her. You'll probably laugh about it a few years from now.

why are you just now having dinner w/ the family for the first time if you're already engaged?? usually that happens within the first couple months of dating....

That was exactly my first thought and I'm surprised no one commented on that before you.

THANK YOU!! I was thinking the same thing too. If you have dated long enough to be engaged, wouldnt you have met each others parents already? Why dont other commenters pick up on this??

It's possible to have met the family without having dinner with them. Or to live far away and have not met them yet. After all, it's the guy she'll be marrying, not the family. Gawsh, everyone's so desperate to find fault with the FMLs.

It only happens within the first couple of months of dating if your significant other lives near their family. Some people have an annoying habit of moving.

hey well at least it poured over you too so it didnt seem intentional haha
