That's pretty awful...I'm assuming your son is around 13/14 but then again most 13/14 year olds tend to be assholes, and think they know everything.
I never understood why someone would feel embarassed by another person's behavior: my mom does something embarassing? Oh well, SHE did it? She was the one screaming her head off or whatever, not me, why should I be bothered? You can't control other people's behavior, so why stress about what they do? They're the ones choosing to put themselves out there!

If he's calling you a "fat b***", it doesn't even matter if you were embarrassing him or not. He could have told you in private instead of making fun of you with his friends just to look cool. My suggestion is, next parent teacher conference, have the same attitude. Then, tell him that he is an embarrassment to your whole family. Naw, I'm just kidding, but I wouldn't just sit and take that.
