Today, I went to the dentist after not being there for 3 years. I was told that I had loads of cavities and that I would need to pay $3,000 for a serious mouth surgery. The reason I hadn't been to the dentist in 3 years: I've been married to a dentist for 3 years that said my teeth were "perfect." FML

WTF ever. dentists lie and say you need all this surgery to get paid! I had 16 cavities once as a teen and did not have effing oral surgery. get a 2nd and 3rd opinion before you waste money and your insurance drop you.

You still need to go. They have the right tools to check on your teeth and gums.

Let's say you went for a regular physical and the dr said you had a slew of medical conditions that were never an issue for you and you needed surgery stat! Would you trust that Dr. and take his or her word or go for a second or third opinion? It amazes me that most people take what a dentist says to them as the law. Chances are you really don't need all that work done! One Dr can read an xray completely different than another! Save yourself a lot of grief and get more opinions. Factors such as experience, money and just plain talent will vary greatly! Just because said Dr finished school doesn't make said Dr a good one! Don't take it all at face value, you could save money but most importantly save your teeth! There is no turning back once you've let someone drill on teeth that didn't need drilling to begin with!

Definitly get a 2nd opinion. When I was younger I was told by one dentist I needed to have two teeth pulled and 3 years of braces and another told me 3 teeth pulled and 5 years of braces. In the end all I needed was one tooth pulled and my teeth are fine.

Half of all doctors/dentists graduate in the lower half of their class. Looks like your spouse is one of them.

Lol...are you serious? Of course half of them graduate in the bottom half....and the other half graduates in the top half too. Imagine that!

lol youthink, maybe you should think before you post. YOU THINK?

#42 and #57, what the **** are you talking about? He didn't make a mistake, it was just kind of a joke or play on words. You're dumbasses.

"Think about how stupid the average person is, then realize that half the people are even dumber than that!" Gotta love the Carlin quotes.

#59, try not to make yourself look like an idiot again. Read carefully.

Maybe the other dentists were just lying to make money and your wife knows best. Or if your mouth really does need surgery get your wife to do it, FO FREE!

each dentist has a different opinion, i'd go and double-check..

I would recommend getting another opinion before shelling out all that money. I had a dentist insist I needed a root canal and even start the procedure despite my protestations...and when I went to another dentist, he told me that the last dentist was basically a fraud and trying to get money out of me. My teeth were fine. (The former dentist was fired and an apology letter was sent out to all her patients by the dentist who had hired her to be her partner.)

Find another dentist. Christ on clamshell, dentists are worse than veterinarians when it comes to overcharging. Dentists are weird anyway. You have to be if sticking your fingers in someones mouth appeals to you as a career choice.

YDI for not going to the dentist. Did your wife professionally clean your teeth? Do you not have insurance or something?

Well, cant your wife do the work for free/much less?

Well if his wife suggested he had no cavities I'd not trust her to do the surgery....
