Today, I went to the orthodontist's to get my braces tightened, and I chose baby blue bands. Turns out they make my teeth look extremely yellow. Only a month and a half to go. FML

Your teeth look yellow because they are yellow. The bands barely make a difference in teeth color. Just get better Dental Hygiene, cause that's nasty.

If you brushed your teeth more this wouldn't be a problem. The color of the bands doesn't miraculously change the color of your teeth. So your teeth must have already been yellow. And people might not outright talk about you but they sure think it's nasty.

Incorrect. Color being set against color does make the human eye perceive colors differently. For example, you could have fairly -healthy- white teeth (but not brilliant white, because that's impossible without bleaching) and it looks like they are just white. Then hold up some kind of white fabric (stark white) to your face, and your teeth will appear yellow in comparison to the fabric. That's how our eyes work. Another good example is paint chips. You could pluck out something that you see as white, but is really a pinkish off-white, and it's not until you put a red against it do you see the pink undertones of the white. So, picking a light colored band (baby blue, which is also a complimentary color to yellow) will make her teeth appear more yellow.

Actually 98. Her teeth are yellow because she probably doesn't brush enough. The bands barely make a difference and I should know because I just got my braces taken off. And the baby blues, which were my favorite bands to pick, never made my teeth look yellow. Because I own and know how to operate a toothbrush and toothpaste combo. Which OP apparently does not.

The braces make your teeth look yellow anyway. I remember tons of my friends having to get their teeth whitened bc of braces. I think it's caused by the glue but I'm not entirely sure.

They use colored bands for braces now? When I had braces 17 years ago I had a thin metallic wire to hold the main wire to the brackets on the teeth. It was a real pain in the a$$ :/ BTW I googled colored braces, and they are really cool, I'm jealous!
