Well Op, I imagine for you, that must have been nerve wrecking. The good news is, nothing actually happened, and you were actually, perfectly safe. :) Elevators have some of the highest safety standards for anything motorized, I believe. And despite what you see in movies, they don't just snap their cables and fall, plunging people to their deaths. The weakest supportive member in its design, including all the cables and rigging, is still 20 times what they are rated for, so that max weight load of 1300kgs is actually 26000kgs, so take comfort from that, and try it again, Op!
