I'm sorry about your break up and that she did it so wordily! Breaking up with people is a delicate art, do it too bluntly and you hurt them unessessarily, be too gentle and you give them false hope or the sense that you're not being honest with them. Honestly I've had friends hounded by exs because the reasons they gave for a break up weren't satisfactory. And you can see from the people here labelling your ex a bitch sometimes people can get pretty nasty when they don't think the breakup was done right. At least, assuming it wasn't all just venting about you being a bad boyfriend, she thought enough of you to write 13 pages to say goodbye.
Agreed. Breakups (unless they're a long time coming and both partners are ok with it) are almost never happy occasions. There's no "right way" which will always leave the other person 100% happy...the "best way" depends on the individual, and it's hard to know which way will be best... I've heard so many people complain about how they wished their SO would take the time to give them more specific reasons as to why they broke up, so that they could move on more easily and learn from it. 13 pages seems like a lot, but if the girl is particularly eloquent and there were some deep issues in the relationship, it could make sense. Plus, some people find it difficult to cry in front of others so this letter could give OP an opportunity to read and reflect on it in privacy, and then have a talk with her afterwards. I'm not saying I think letters are the beast breakup option, and 13 pages does seem like a lot, but I wouldn't automatically assume the girl's a bitch without knowing what she actually wrote. However I do sympathize with OP. He obviously didn't see it coming, which makes it even more heart breaking. I hope you can eventually move on to happier things!
Was her name Rachel, and were you on a break?
A breakup is like a bereavement it's usually followed by a cremation and some sandwiches. Holly - Red Dwarf She just gave you the tinder to start the fire of all the things she gave you that you wish to eliminate from your life so you can move on. Speaking of Tinder jump on Tinder and start swiping right!
I hate when people feel the need to unburden themselves when all they want to do is break up. Keep that shit in your own head and just tell me you want to end things. I'm no longer you bf, so I have no obligation to be your relationship therapist.
I'd like to know why my relationship ended. You wouldn't?
I've received a few long breakup letters in my day. Not a single one has been a concise examination of the relationship and why it ended. They have spanned the gamut from "this is why i am an emotional cripple" to "here is everything I've ever been upset about and not mentioned" As I said, I'm not trying to be my now ex's therapist.
I didn't get it until I saw your username. Are...are you roleplaying as a joke? If so, that was kind of amazing, A+. If you aren't, relevant username haha.
We aren't talking about a "we need to fix our relationship" letter, which I would most definitely read. But a 13 page breakup letter? No ******* way. If she has already made up her mind I don't owe her anything, most especially I don't owe her the courtesy of reading her letter. I don't need to read the letter to know why the relationship ended, she had 13 pages of shit that was bothering her and she never brought it up until she had decided to leave. Pretty clear what caused the demise in that case.
All I can think of is Rachel's letter from Friends. Does it? Does it?!
Did she at least cite her sources? Was it double spaced or single?
front and back??
I'm so sorry OP, I'm sure it must have been terrible but I can't stop thinking about the Friends episode, I just saw it yesterday :D
Umm... Is she a writer. Also would you be willing to email me the 13 page letter I really really want to read it. And I bet I'm not the only one.

Am I the only one wondering the number of things she was dissatisfied that resulted in a 13 page letter?
Tell her it was too long and you didn't read.
