Today, I wrote the girl I love a long, gushy letter to convince her to be with me instead of her abusive ex. Later on, I asked her what she thought. She said she can't read cursive. She chose the ex. FML

You deserve so much better than that.

Sorry for you that was the outcome, but I gave you a YDI because you should have had the courage to go tell her face to face. Then when she swooned, you could have taken her in your arms. Instead, you get to stay home and **********, using your own tears as lubricant, thinking about her ex, taking her sexually.

I'm going to go against the grain once again and disagree with 99% of the commenters. Cursive is a pain in the ass to read. I can still read it, as can most everyone else I know, but it takes 3x the time to read a letter written in cursive as it does to read the same letter written in block print. Not only that, but cursive is damn near impossible to read if the person has anything less than perfect handwriting because with cursive all the letters look nearly the same. Block print is much more forgiving to bad handwriting. OP probably just had shitty handwriting. Or even better, probably never wrote anything in cursive before and was only using it to make shit seem more romantic or something. Moral of the story: Stop ******* writing in cursive. It's a retarded way to write.

An excellent example of society dumbing down.

Because they don't hand write a letter? Why bother I don't make my own clothes, or grow my own food, and my laptop makes letters everyone can read

Wait, how is this "dumbing down"? Cursive is a much slower way to write. Unless you are doing calligraphy, just write in block print. It's easier to write AND read than cursive. Seriously, using cursive for handwritten letters is dumb. Nobody benefits from a method of writing that takes longer to write AND read than pretty much any other method. Also, when did I say not to hand write anything? I just said not to write with cursive.

You must be really bad at it, which probably explains why you don't like cursive. It's actually a lot FASTER to write in cursive than in block letters, if you're doing it properly. As for the other point, it's still very relevant in the technological age because it's much more personal than writing stuff on a keyboard. Plus, if your cursive is even halfway decent, it's beautiful to look at too.

Your brain reads by the Last and First letter than the number of letters in the word then the collection of letters in the word. It's much faster to read and write cursive. In the UK EVERYONE writes in cursive once they're over 10.

In addition, writing in cursive has been proven to improve brain function. It encourages your brain connect ideas more fluidly.

In matters of love, never rely on a letter - Say it from the heart and in person. In any case you are better off without being involved in such a mental case that she would go back to an abusive boyfriend.

They always choose the ex. No matter how much better us good ones are, they decide to drown themselves in the misery by staying with them. It's time to give up OP

There are two types of intellect: common sense and book-smart. She possesses neither of these.

Well you learn cursive writing around age 8 or so, so if she can't read it, she's either 8 years old or just really, really daft.

I think schools (or at least schools in my area) are no longer required to even teach cursive writing. They can if they choose too.

It's not like it's easy to get out of abusive relationships, especially if it's been going on a while.
