Today, it's my birthday. My boyfriend didn't get me a present. He did, however, get me a card from our cat. He signed it "Have a purrrrfect birthday." Then he left to go to work. I was alone all day long. FML

Ohh noo!!! He was going to work making a living and you were left all alone to do nothing? That's too cruel!

...What? At least he remembered. It's not like he can take a day off just because it's your birthday, you know. The fact that you were alone all day was your own fault, get some friends.

At least he works and thought far enough in advance to get you a card.

It's my birthday. My boyfriend didn't get me a present - I expected a present because that's a legal requirement, not to mention a deduction from your wages that can be claimed back from the IRS. He did however get me a card from our cat - So he didn't forget my birthday, but instead he used some relatively original thought and a cheesy pun on the word 'perfect'. He then left to go to work - He then had the AUDACITY to earn a living and pay the household bills. I was alone all day - Nobody else remembered my birthday either, or in the event that they did remember, they didn't like me enough to see me. This includes my parents and any other relatives who might reasonably be expected to treat me on my birthday. In the event that I literally have no family, a lack of one birthday present is surely the least of my worries. OP - He sounds like a completely unreasonable person, and I think you'd be justified in dumping him for this disgraceful performance. It's just a shame you aren't married, I'm fairly sure that this sort of ill-treatment justifies divorce and entitlement to half the marital assets.
