Today, it's my sixteenth birthday and my mom promised me she'd buy me a car. She came home with a toy lego car. FML

quit expecting everything to be handed to you. A lot of people don't get cars for their 16th birthday. A lot of people don't get their first car until after college and it's a piece of shit.

ur 16!!! u dont need a car u spoiled brat! ur mom should have took ur matchbox car away from u!

What's wrong with the bus? Or a bike? Or, as obsolete as it sounds, walking?

walking is only obsolete for the fat bastards who expect a car for birthdays etc.. :)

Some people live in small towns that have no public transit and are to far to bike/walk to anything. I got my grandpa's old car for my 17th birthday. He had died a few years ago and it was just sitting around so my Grandma thought it would make a nice gift. Also for those of you telling the OP to get a job, if you live in a small town that is far from any workplace its pretty hard to get a job without a way to get to said job. Hell its hard to get a job period nowdays. I don't think the OP is complaining about the fact that he didn't get a car its more that his mom lead him to believe he was getting a car. Its not being spoiled to expect what someone said they where going to give you. If anyone of you where offered a free car when you where 16 I doubt you would have said no.

I said no. My mom wanted to get me a mini cooper, but I asked her not to get me any car, because I wanted to work for it myself. Didn't have to, but I wanted to.

Can anyone say Sweet Sixteen? I watch that show just to laugh at the spoiled, whiny lil brats when they have meltdowns. Take the silver spoon out of your ass and get a job if you want a car soo bad.

You know what's better than getting a car for your 16th birthday? Lazer Tag! And I'm not being sarcastic

Hell yeah its better than a car! We totally played lazer tag for my sweet sixteen. And it was definitely sweet

Hahahaha! Get a job kid! Cars are privileges. If you want one bad enough then buy one. Your mom owes you nothing since she is the one that gave you life and all...

^This. Also, OP, do you have any idea what it's like to own a car? It's a pain in the ass. So yeah, get a job, just drive your parents' car for now, and quit whining about not getting every little thing that your heart desires.

It drives me absolutely batshit when people say "Parent's don't owe their kids anything" because you know what? They do. No, they don't owe their kids a car. But people use the "parents don't owe" situation for everything, and sometimes it really doesn't apply. Hey, at 7 my mom stopped paying attention to me and put me in charge of my infant sister, who I had to raise. Oh but that's fine. She doesn't owe me a normal childhood. She gave me life. I'm just being greedy. Hey, my mom kicked me out when I was 16, because I couldn't find a job in her 24hour time limit. But she doesn't owe me a place to stay, because she gave me life. I'm just being selfish. Hey, my mom used to scream at me because I didn't clean the house while she was at work, regardless of the fact that she worked at the same time I had school. But hey, she gave me life. Who said she needs to give me peace, quiet, and respect. I'm just a brat. Hey, my mom didn't buy me a bathingsuit for three years, despite that mine was too small, and I kept asking. Instead she bought each of my sisters three new ones each summer. But I guess that's okay, because she doesn't owe me anything after giving me life. Sorry for being spoiled. ((Yes. I'm aware this isn't really related to OP and his car, but like i said. That phrase drives me ABSOLUTELY crazy. It's bullshit.))

Yes, I know! I hate it when people pull the "Your mom gave you life, they don't owe you anything." argument. Do these people actually think that everyone ASKED to be pushed out? Also, I was born via C-section, so it doesn't even apply to me. My dad was super-strict when I was 12. He'd constantly yell at me for no reason, sometimes up to the point where I'd start crying. Oh, But he can do that whenever he wants. He ****** my mom, and I'm just being ungrateful.

my mom was going to buy me a car for my sweet 16 ;0 well... I had 2 choices... a classic mustang... or a full out bash at 6 flags. I took 20 people ;)

lmao you expected a car to be given to you?? Omg that's hilarious!!!! hahahaha you deserved it. may sound harsh but it's true. life isn't a teen movie where things are easy. cars cost a lot of money. get a job and buy it yourself and see if you still want it after buying a month of gas.

Ur time will come. In the meantime, who doesn't love Lego?

You know, I feel like half the FMLs I comment on, I'm correcting the interpretation of....... The FML lies in the fact that her mother made a promise and shuffled her way out of it. OP was disappointed because of a misunderstood (or broken, depending on the interpretation) promise. I'm sure if someone promised you something special, and then gave you something silly you wouldn't be too happy either. Is it life *******? No, of course not. It's a silly inconvenience, and a joke that OP didn't find funny. However, most of this site isn't life-*******. its supposed to be funny. It's mildly amusing. You all need to learn to play nice! (Wishful thinking? Very much so!) OP: Cheer up. At least she remembered your birthday, and remembered the promise (even if it was in a less-than-hoped-for way)

Actually, re-reading the FML, I'm not sure my interpretation is correct. If it is, then my comment stands. If it turns out OP is simply complaining that he didn't get a car, then he's being foolish. Also, apologies for calling you a 'her' in the previous post. I didn't look at the gender, and in my head, I saw this woman I used to know, who did that to her younger sister one year. Sorry.
