They won't even know that the gift is late. Besides, proper etiquette gives you a lot of leeway in the time before you send a wedding gift. Are you a bridesmaid / groomsmaid? Focus on the dress. If not, just find a nice dress.
One event in the USA does not affect the general world, as a whole.

Don't worry about the gift. Most people don't take them to the actual wedding anymore, since too many people steal.
