Today, it was my little girl's birthday and her grandparents came over to celebrate. One of the presents from her grandparents turned out to be a sweater. She then asked, "Mommy, may I please lie?" When I shook my head no, she exclaimed, "I hate this ugly sweater!" FML

Once she asked your permission to lie, you were up a creek no matter your response. I guess it's time to teach her the value of the Little White Lie.

well actually she didn't really mean she hated it. she said "can I lie" and when you said no she said "I hate this sweater" so she pretty much said she liked it. she didn't want to lie? so she said she hated it.

You should've known that was coming. I saw that from a mile away.

Well I dnt think you really deserve it... but when it comes to your kid and he raises this kind of question, it's better to ask him the reason why he would like to do so. Then explain to him why is can do so or he cannot do so. We do need a lot of patience with kids.

she asked u for permission n u refused!!!

If you are opening presents you are allowed to lie.

To be fair, you've done very well to raise a child that not only asks your permission to do something that you have taught her to know that it is wrong, but she also asks it in the correct manner. You should be proud that your little girl is so well spoken.
