A lot of 14 year olds have "relationships". It usually isn't a big deal. Maybe OP didn't realise that it was a sexual thing. Or maybe she never told him that she had a boyfriend.

All the people saying OP has failed as a parent: Not necessarily true. I had sex when I was 14 (nearly 15, but still) and my mum and dad were absolutely wonderful parents. I had a lot of good sex education from both them and my school, and I still had sex at 14. It was something I wanted to do and so, being the stubborn teenager I was, I did it. I'm not saying it was a brilliant decision but it was a choice that I made and my parents were not at fault at all. You can't keep your eyes on your kids every single second of the day, especially when they get older.

wasn't there a story circulating the internet about a kid leaving a note for his dad about something along these lines, then saying he was kidding and that there are worse things than the report card sitting on the table?
