Today, my boss made me play golf with some executives of a company we're hoping to secure a business deal with, despite me having no golf training. My first swing ended up with me being rushed to the hospital. FML

Well they will certainly remember you, and you might get some sort of deal out of pity :D

I hate to say it but better you than an executive.

A blow to the back of the head from being a little too eager in his swing? I mean really, usually golfing accidents occur to innocent bystanders standing nearby.

I'm curious as to how exactly OP landed himself in the hospital during a golf outing.. Please elaborate?

Fore!!! Did your clients sign the deal out of pity?

You may not have any golf experience, but injuring yourself so bad that you needed a hospital visit is a you deserve it situation. If you are is such poor shape and so badly not athletic that a single golf swing caused an E.R. trip then you need to get in better shape. Which is fully in your control so you deserve it!

Exactly what I thought. I'm horrible at golf but have, in no way, ever hurt myself.

Orrrr he could have been hit by someone else swinging the club.

To # 34. He said on his first swing. Not getting hit by someone else.

27 - You could be a phenomenal athlete in great shape, but if you have no idea how to swing a golf club it's pretty easy to pull a muscle. It's also possible he hit the ball and it ricocheted off a nearby object and hit him (I've seen that happened to experienced golfers). Without more information from OP, your vote of YDI is completely unfounded.

57- no it isnt, you are making up excuses for OP. If he really was in great shape, there would be no way he'd pull a muscle on his first swing

I agree. You don't need "training" to swing a stick at a ball that's sitting there on the ground. A pulled muscle doesn't send you to the ER, unless you're grossly out of shape. In which case, shame on you. YDI. If you're too uncoordinated to swing the club without hitting yourself in the back of the head, you're a useless human being. I could do it my first try when I was 4, with no "training" and I hated the sport. I'm not even athletic. And I highly doubt you managed to hit the ball hard enough at just the absolute perfect angle that it ricocheted back and hit you...so that's probably not how it happened. You might need training if you want to actually be good at golf, but you don't need it to be able to hit the ball without hurting yourself. That's something any able bodied person should have no problem with. All in all, this is a YDI post.

Exactly, 71. 27 was thumbed down for basically stating the same, meanwhile the individual who said that "he could've been hit by someone else swinging a club" was thumbed up.

That's what I was thinking, 16. Better for it to be OP than one of the big wigs though. That probably would have ended OP's career on the spot.

Probably struck himself in the back of the head in the backswing.

You have me wondering, what could have possibly happened to you?
