Hi guys! I'm the OP :) I'm 19, and my boyfriend's 20. I thought LotR was better, personally. To be fair, I've only seen one of the Star Wars movies, and he's only seen half of one of the LotR movies, so we were both a little biased. This was last night though, and by the morning, it was forgotten. We're all good now. Thanks for your comments! :)

I just came here to watch the comments. lol.

Both are very similar franchises (movie wise)- A fantastic orginal trilogy of a young hero who complains a lot, followed up by a godawful prequel story in an obvious attempt to rake in the cash.

Uh, as far as the books go, the Hobbit was published first, and was great. If you think the movies were that bad, blame Hollywood for screwing it up.

If you're talking movies only, Star Wars. If you are also including the original LotR books, then LotR wins

With the storm trooper's bad aim. Legolas could have taken down the empire by himself.

They really can't combat against each other. One is the epitome of fantasy literature that modern fantasy attempts to live up to, the other is science fiction cinema that modern sci-fi tries to imitate. Both are great in their respective genres. To try to fight about which is better would be like picking a rap song and a country song and asking which is better. People who like country are going to say the country song, people who like rap are going to pick the rap song. People who like both? I like both Star Wars and LotR. I like them equally. In the end, you really deserve it if arguing about something so trivial leads to not speaking to one another. It's childish.

I agree to a point, but Tolkein defined his genre for decades where as science fiction has evolved past Star Wars. They are both great but In the end Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have had a longer impact in their sphere of influence.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by me being "that guy"...

The person who has to try to ruin everybody else's fun with logic and political correctness.
