Today, my boyfriend and I started our diet. After a long day of being held accountable for every calorie I ate, I went home to sneak a snack. My boyfriend came over to surprise me, and found me on the couch shoveling left-over Indian food into my mouth. FML

OP it's because of people like you that United States of America is considered the land of the obese. Giving up on a diet after the first week or so is slightly acceptable, but on the first day? Some people need to come to their senses and realize that posting about their weak commitments/determinations on FML is not the best way to resolve the issue or gain sympathy.

Look, this is my opinion, but it is very hard to stick to a diet that you just go gung-ho into. It's difficult to just restrict yourself from everything. Why don't you start by restricting yourself from a few things or substituting unhealthy things for better things and work your way up? And even rewarding yourself a little. Like if you've eaten very well all day, maybe you can have a serving of Tai or a small dessert, if you work out prior.

If you really want to lose wait I suggest regular exercise and you might want to join weight watchers. They are very helpful when it comes to eating healthy.

I just like the fact that you used the word "shoveling", that's just funny...and if you have a craving problem I recommend you go to a nutrisionist

YDI. If you couldn't handle it you shouldn't have agreed to it in the first place. You don't go on extreme diets out of the blue. Next time pick something you can handle, or don't diet at all.

dieting does not mean to not eat, just eat healthy.

isn't it great how the fml is you got caught, not that you're destroying your body mouthful by mouthful? The real FYL is the other way around! If you're still talking like this, you obviously haven't learnt your lesson Maybe you're not ready to diet yet, try again when your dad needs a triple heart bypass after a massive heart attack - maybe then you'd find some motivation Not that this has happened to me, I'm a nurse and see this all the time. Sure, roll your eyes fatty, I'll be seeing you soon(er than you think)

sigh.... 1 day really? im going to bet you just decided to cut all your favourite food out cold turkey and eat salad and water all day..... this isnt a productive diet and will not help, your body will think your starving it (which you are) and will rebel, making you crave food and want to cheat. start you day with a large bowl of porridge made with skimmed milk and no sugar, add a sweetener or dried raisins if you crave the sweetness. if your still hungry have some brown wholemeal toast with low fat spread and orange juice or water to drink. this gives you slow release energy and should help you stop craving an 11am snack. then bring a packed lunch of brown rice/pasta with a tomato sauce and turkey breast. turkey is very cheap has almsot no fat and is a good source of protein. if your craving a snack mid afternoon eat handfuls of mixed nuts and raisins, or halve an avocado with some prawns and creme fraiche. finally steam some fish, potatoes and asparagus for dinner. steaming is far healthier than frying the fish. also try and carry a large 1 litre sports cap water bottle and aim to get through 3 of them a day. this will flush out the toxins in your body. try and limit the caffeine and if you must drink avoid pints and wine. go for whiter wine spritzers or spirits and soda/tonic water. this limits your calorie intake from booze. keep strong and good luck (also throw away your left over indian food.... thats just gonna tempt you)

The recipes that you gave are all good starting points, and a quick search online can yield you an endless supply of more quick, easy, healthy and wholesome meals. AllRecipes.com is a favorite website of mine. However, I would suggest not trying to keep away from the Indian food completely. Many Indian recipes are in fact very healthy, they are often vegetarian and low in saturated fat, yet high in protein from legumes, chickpeas, etc. I don't necessarily suggest eating completely vegetarian, and many Indian recipes can be adapted to include meat. Also, as mentioned before, completely depriving oneself of a food that is craved for, will make many people binge on that food. At least when they are just beginning to change their eating habits. I say if you really want some chocolate cake, like the cake is consuming your every waking thought, then have a few bites. Then stop. That's part of learning portion control in general: eat a small amount, slowly. Then give yourself a minute to see if you are still hungry. People often eat too much food, too quickly, before their bodies have a chance to register the fact that they are no longer hungry. Eating until you are stuffed is unhealthy, just eat until you are satisfied.
