I agree, it sounds to me like he's been wanting to break it off for awhile and just used this as an excuse. Why people feel they need an excuse and can't just break up with someone for the real reason is beyond me.

Saying you cut your hair short is too general. What hair cut was it? Something that resembled a cute bob or an army buzz cut? The former is cute and charming. The latter on a girl is ..... :C.

You're better off without him, he clearly has self esteem issues that are going to mess with all his relationships. It's better to find out now. Watch some sappy movies, eat some junk food, cry if you need to then move on, you deserve better.

Not sure what kinda personality you have, but if you were as spiteful as I am, you could now go around and tell people that, due to you cutting your hair short, your ex finally realised that he was indeed gay. That he was unsure about it at first, afraid that people would think differently about him, but that he then couldn't hold it back anymore when your short hair made him aware that he has feelings for one of his male friends, who also happens to have short hair. You should also ask your mutual friends to support him in this decision and to help him with coming to terms with who he really is.
