Today, my boyfriend convinced me to face my fear of horror movies by promising to hold my hand through the entire flick. He fell asleep 10 minutes into it, farting and snoring in his sleep, whilst I was paralysed by fear. FML

Must of been a hell of a fart to paralyse you

Why didn't you try to wake him up and leave the theater?

OP said they werenparalyzed with fear... typically means an inability to move...

That's just an expression, though. I don't think OP was literally paralyzed while watching a movie...

I know it's an expression, bit if they were as scared as they said, they may bit have been able to think straight. fear is a dangerous thing to the mind.

Oh, grow up, OP. Seriously. It's fake. Most horror movies aren't even scary. And if it really bothered you that much, you could have turned it off. You deserve it 100%

actually in all deas honesty, the suspense and build up with horror movies is what makes them scary to me. i get nightmares lol but yeah, she couldve just woke him up or left the room

You're kind of a jerk, 12. When you get right down to it most people's fears are pretty illogical. Why don't we sit you down to face one of yours and see how you react?

24, I'm not a jerk. I'm logical. If it scared her so much, she could have turned off the tv or left the room. If it was a theatre, she could have declined to see a movie. I hate spiders, but I'm not just going to sit there like a dummy and just stare at one. I would take action and kill it.

If you can kill a spider, you're either very brave or isn't actually afraid. I'm completely terrified of insects and arachnids, and I can only kill one if it's very very small and with a very long broom. However, there's one special insect I can't even say its name. **** you, r-roach *gasps*

Oh my, please ignore that "isn't". Sorry, grammar nazis.

@36 Phobias affect people differently. You can't just assume that the way you react to your fear is the same way everyone would react to the same fear. I'm also afraid of spiders, and like #12 I don't just sit there and do nothing. Op should have turned the movie off.

Yes, I also don't get why OP just kept watching the movie. I thought "paralyzed by fear" was just an expression, I find it hard to believe that OP was literally paralyzed. But, as you said, phobias affect people differently.

Why is it so hard for people to believe that's she could have been literally "paralyzed by fear"? Sure I get that everybody's different and won't react the same if in the same situation, but come on! Some of the commenters are acting like it's impossible to be so scared that your body shuts down. I have a fear of clown, when I see one (even just a picture of one) I break out in a cold sweat, start to shake, and usually run away. That's about my only fear. I love just about anything horror, specially around Halloween. I love going through haunted houses. One year, my sister and I (she is the chicken shit) went to a haunted train. I never even so much as flinched all the way through (the theme was horror movies, I was trying to identify all the movies they used). At the very end right before the exit was a coffin standing on end. I knew something was going to pop out of it. Yes, it was a clown. Not just any clown though, it was the source of my fear of clowns, pennywise the clown. Yes, I was so scared that I just stood there staring at IT. I had never been so scared in my life! I couldn't move, I couldn't blink, and for a few seconds I couldn't even breath. The only reason I ever did move was because my sister, who was behind me, pushed me out of the way. So yes, I know from experience that you can be "paralyzed by fear" literally. If that can happen to me because of some guy that I knew was just dressed in a costume, why is it so hard to believe that is can also happen to OP while watching a movie?

Isn't the point of horror movies to have a fear of them? If you weren't scared to a horror film then it wouldn't be a very good one surely!

There's a big difference in the fun kid of spook- scare and being truly scared.

It is, but some people can be more sensitive about them. I can't even stand to see trailers for horror flicks. But I know and respect myself, so I don't try to "face it." They are designed to scare and terrify. It would be like going to see hilarious comedians to try to desensitize yourself so that you won't laugh. That would be a stupid endeavor.

If you watched it in the theater FYL. If you watched it at home, YDI.

What movie were you watching? If YOU (not your bf) want to get past your fear, baby steps. Work your way up to seeing those movies, don't start with them. Start with a good dark comedy. Otherwise don't watch those movies, they are meant to scare and disturb.

Alright, which movie was it really? Scary movies now are pretty lame..

You should have just left him there Or bought a terrifying clown mask for revenge later

If there is a next time scream and hope he wakes up
