Today, my boyfriend of several years, and father of our one-year-old child, finally proposed. He was making idle conversation from twenty feet away and casually said, "By the way, you wanna get hitched?" This is as romantic as my life will ever get. Yay. FML

So THAT'S where they come from! My mom gave me some bs lie about sex and pregnancy. She even told me baby showers were about giving women gifts. Good to know that was all a filthy lie.

I can see how that'd be disappointing in the moment, but the proposal isn't that important in the long run. My husband interrupted my video game time and proposed to me while we were sitting on the couch, one random Wednesday afternoon. The important thing is that he loves you. Best wishes OP!

I see what you mean, money to support your child is the most important thing in general when you become a parent. However, for the proposal/marriage, love (should) be the foundation. Why are you having a serious conversation with me, anyway? You have naked Zumba to prepare for. Hop to it! ;)
