Today, my boyfriend sent me a text saying to call him. When I did, it went straight to voicemail. It was a recording of him breaking up with me. He broke up with me over the phone, without even talking to me. FML

I once broke up with someone via voicemail, years ago when I was young and stupid. I've been ashamed of it ever since and have tried to live it down. Hopefully your ex will feel the same shame I have. (And yes, I later did apologize to my ex for being a wimp and not facing up to the situation, and I was forgiven...but still...)

You're joking right? You should feel bad that you crawled back to her to ask forgiveness for breaking up like that. That would be the point of breaking up with someone over voicemail - so you'd never have to speak to them ever again. And the only legitimate excuse for breaking up with someone like that would be if you found out they cheated on you. Because if you confronted them with it face to face it might get ugly; after all, jail is something we all try to avoid.

Like I said, I was young and stupid. It wasn't over cheating, but other things, and I didn't go crawling back...we ran into each other at a party, and ended up having a long chat on the porch. Still, it's something I'm definitely not proud of.
