Today, my brother had his fiancée over to meet the whole family. We were having a great time with her, and my mother gushed to her that she was like the daughter she never had. I'm her daughter. FML

Today, I went to a family reunion with my brother and my mother. She spent quite a while giving a glowing introduction for my brother to one of her cousins. Then, just before walking off, she jerked a thumb in my direction and said, "Oh, yeah, and that's his sister." FML

Today, my fiancé and I visited his family for dinner. The entire time I was there, his mother and sister had an in depth conversation about how attractive his ex girlfriends were and how they got along with them so well. FML

While helping my boyfriends mom cook for thanksgiving, she told me that I was like the daughter she never had :) it was a very special thing to hear. She actually has no daughters though.. Just two sons. I'm sure your mom meant it to feel the same for your brother's fiancé :) And later when I told my boyfriend what she said he smiled and told me that she hated his ex :) that made me feel special too :)

Maybe your mom was excited and nervous that she didn't recognize what she was putting out there as a MSG to you as her daughter.But she used it as a figure of speech to make the finance feel special.i dunno maybe your mom is just dense.
