Today, my child-hating friend who vowed never to have any no matter what, announced that she's pregnant. I've had three IVF cycles, spent $90k in fertility treatments, and still can't conceive. FML

I'm getting real sick and tired of these "adopt" comments. She doesnt want to adopt right now, its her money, her decision, adoption is probably her last resort. "oh but you'll save a child from shitty foster care/ adoption is cheaper/ stop spending 90k/ there are millions blah blah blah" crap. she does not deserve it. With someone with some sense back me up.

Yeah if she wants to it is her decision. But when you're making selfish decisions you don't get to bitch and moan when they dont work. Not to mention its rude and self centered to begrudge her friend for having a child she can't. Which just goes back to shoe her underlying selfish attitude. Hence the ydi and comments about adoption.

90K? Wow....I live in Quebec, where we get 3 completely free tries at IVF if you're infertile. Since I'm a woman who can't have kids, I guess I really live in the right place for treatments!

There are a lot of kids who need adopting. Try spending a fraction of that 90K to get a kid who's already born. Yes, your perfect genes won't be passed on, but live with it.

It's not necessarily about having your own "perfect" genes...many people need to do IVF with donated sperm / eggs. I think what's important for most IVF patients is going through the pregnancy and birth!

#388 Why should anyone worry about OP's friend? If she didn't want to have children, why didn't she prevent it from happening? I'm not saying birth control or condoms, if she absolutely hated children, she would have had her tubes tied or had her significant other get a vasectomy. If she didn't do that then it's her own fault. I suspect that she only said she hated children because she doesn't care for them too much. But if she had one, then she'd have a kid. No one should show sympathy for her because she didn't take the steps to prevent something she didn't like.

you don't know that she didn't take steps to prevent getting pregnant. contraceptives fail, shit happens. hell- even getting your tubes tied fails once in awhile. not to mention that the majority of dr.s won't tie a womans tubes unless she's older or already has a child- so she might have tried to have her tubes tied, and was refused. her significant other might not WANT to get a vasectomy, and she doesn't have the right to force him to have one just because SHE doesn't want kids. an unplanned pregnancy is much more dreadful than infertility. if your infertile, you can adopt or attempt fertilty treatments- there is no easy way out of an unplanned pregnancy.
